Hanging in Leines Land – Utah

Bjorn is pretty much the best person to follow around here on a powder day

While a big chunk of the crew was roaming around Romania, (Ha, get it…Romeing in Romania….I see a magazine story title there) two other crews were in Canada, and MFR was lost somewhere in Russia, Bjorn, Greg Bokenkamp and myself were in Utah getting ready to head to the great white north. Much to our dismay and contrary to what weather forecasters were claiming, it ended up snowing in Utah quite a bit, enough to get some good pow shralping on the resorts, and cause a much needed recharge on the backcountry.

We rode a day at Solitude and it has some great in bounds terrain

Greg and I made the 8 hour trip from Tahoe and Foy’s Shack where the weather wasn’t to epic, but thanks to some handy pyrotechnic work from some of Foy’s neighbors we ended up bagging some shots for the movie that I think you all will be very psyched on. We cruised through the desert and pulled into the Leines home which sits in a secret locale somewhere at the foot of one of the Canyons where we were just in time to sit down to a great dinner with Bjorn and his family as well as Erik Leines and his wife, Standard filmer Jake Raynor, and Rome photog Dave Lehl. We spent the night listening to stories from Erik about a Leeward films trip he went on where he hiked all the terrain with no snowmobile help and camped out in the high sierras, sounded like epic stuff. Bjorn’s spot is great we all had our own rooms, the kids are super funny and psyched, and his wife Kristen took care of us all..Thanks Kristen!

We needed a map for a bit though

We started out by shredding Snowbird and Solitude, we had a great time at each place and made some stuff happen right outside of the parking lot of Snowbird. It’s pretty awesome to ride these mountains with BJ as they literally are his backyard.

Bj and Greg hard at work

Now any one that has filmed with me over the years knows how much I hate snowmobiling, in fact, I think I hate it more than anything on earth except for maybe Tijuanan jail, and of course the New York Yankees. Well we headed out into some zones and I got stuck a few hundred times, had my manhood challenged, but survived, and more importantly everyone with me survived as well, I can be a real pain in the ass out there… We ended up getting a bunch of stuff in a short amount of time, and everyone was really really psyched.

It was snowing

Bjorn recently bought an RV, the thing is sweet and it’s great to be able to roll out into the backcountry spots in it. We even camped out right at the sled spots, and one night we went on a crazy mission where we sledded generators and lights way up into the backcountry. It was a long cold night that ended in a bunch of great stuff.

Lehl had his snowshoes out

Like all good things our Utah adventure eventually had to come to an end, Greg and I headed to the east coast for World Quarter-pipe championships and Last Call, while Marius, Eikki, and Bjorn headed to Canada to meet Gary, Trent, Jesse, Casey, Yan, Foy and even MFR. Look for more stuff coming soon from Canada. - Cavan
